BSCIC, BUFT Join Hands to Establish National Fashion Design Center

The Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) have taken a significant step toward strengthening Bangladesh's fashion design sector through enhanced industry-academia collaboration. A meeting held on July 8, 2026, at BUFT's permanent campus focused on establishing a Fashion Design Center and forming a National Pool of Designers to promote innovation, research, capacity building, and design excellence in the country's fashion and apparel industry. The discussions also refined a concept proposal prepared by BSCIC following consultations with leading universities and incorporated recommendations from key stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice-Chancellor (Designate), BUFT; Mr. Md. Saiful Islam, Chairman, BSCIC; and Mr. Md. Zahidul Islam Hitu, Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to the Honorable Adviser, Ministry of Industries. Also present were BUFT's Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, Deans, faculty members from the Departments of Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) and Fashion Studies (FS), and senior BSCIC officials, including Mr. Kazi Nazrul Islam, Mr. Muhammad Kamruzzaman, Mr. Md. Shahiduzzaman, Mr. Khondokar Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Mr. Kizer Mohammad Farabi, and Mr. Md. Rahat Uddin.

The participants emphasized strengthening collaboration between academia and industry to enhance design research, skill development, product innovation, and technology-driven design solutions, particularly for small and cottage industries. The proposed Fashion Design Center is expected to play a vital role in supporting sustainable growth and increasing the global competitiveness of Bangladesh's fashion sector. The initiative reflects a shared commitment by BSCIC and BUFT to develop a dynamic, innovative, and globally recognized fashion design ecosystem while creating greater opportunities for students, researchers, designers, and industry professionals.
