Academic and Professional Background

Prof Md Alamgir Hossain, PhD, joined BUFT (Bangladesh University of Fashion and Technology) as a Professor of Industrial Engineering in January 2023. Shortly after, in February 2023, I was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Fashion Studies (FFS). In August 06, 2024 Prof Alamgir joined as the Treasurer of BUFT.

Prof Alamgir’s tenure at BUFT follows a significant period at Sonargaon University, where he held the positions of Professor, Dean, and Director of the IQAC from June 2019 to January 2023.

Previously, Prof Alamgir dedicated over 13 years to the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Mirpur, Dhaka, Bangladesh. During that time there, he progressed through various roles: six years and five months as an Assistant Professor, two years as an Associate Professor, and three years and six months as a Professor. His promotion to Professor came on December 7, 2015. Before this long tenure at MIST, he spent six months as an Assistant Professor at Primeasia University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Early Life and Education

Prof Alamgir excelled in his early education, achieving outstanding results in both year 10 (SSC) and year 12 (HSC) exams in 1990 and 1992, respectively. This academic excellence led him to the prestigious Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), where he graduated in 1999, ranking 16th out of 120 graduates.

In 2001, he enrolled in the PhD program at Swinburne University in Hawthorn, Australia, and successfully completed the degree in December 2005.

Research and Contributions

Throughout his career, Prof Alamgir has published over 40 articles in various national and international journals and conference proceedings. His research expertise spans CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), Fluid Dynamics, Machine Design, and CAD Modeling. These areas of specialization have been instrumental in establishing my reputation as a distinguished academician and researcher.

Commitment to Bangladesh and BUFT

Despite the allure of a luxurious life in Australia, Prof Alamgir chose to return to Bangladesh. His commitment is to serve the country through research and knowledge sharing. His goal is to contribute to the development of Bangladesh by applying wisdom, expertise, and academic insights.

Joining this journey as he continues to advance the fields of industrial engineering and fashion studies, nurturing the next generation of innovators and scholars at BUFT.
