Bachelor in Apparel Merchandising & Management is a four- year program designed to provide the students with a sound foundation in managerial aspect of Apparel Merchandising. After successful completion of this program a student will be professionally competent to choose his/her career in the RMG sector at home and abroad which are the top most demandable sectors in Bangladesh.

Vision of the department

To educate our graduates with the required competence of process optimization, research and product development and industrial management in the fields of knitting and knitwear manufacturing technology to evolve into a globally integrated technical department contributing towards technical education.

Mission Statement

M 1: Develop graduate who are competent enough to join in RMG sectors and allied textile sectors and can tackle all the challenges and take opportunities for the enrichment and development these sectors to summit through their merchandising and managerial skills.

M 2: Build managerial skills, conceptional and technical knowledges and the confidences required to lead and maintain the growth or RMG sectors in Bangladesh and abroad.

M 3: Become the place of excellence through the landscape of well-developed teaching-learning environment, scientific research and successful collaboration in all aspect of apparel and allied departments merchandising and management.

Program of Study

Bachelor in Apparel Merchandising & Management is a four- year program designed to provide the students with a sound foundation in managerial aspect of Apparel Merchandising. To acquire Bachelor of Apparel Merchandising & Management degree a student has to earn 140 credits courses designed & offered by the university. After successful completion of this program a student will be professionally competent to choose his/her career as Quality Assurance Manager, Sample Room Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Planning Manager, Merchandiser, Production Manager, Factory Manager, and Compliance Manager in the RMG sector at home and abroad.

The program consists of eight academic semesters and a total of 140 credits. Each semester is subdivided into modules from the fields of: Majors, Deepening Specializations, Interdisciplinary Minors and General Electives. Academic Majors are the academic disciplines or program related courses which undergraduate students formally complete. Students are given the opportunity to deepen their understanding of a part of their core majors through a Deepening Specialization , which gives them a further edge in specific industries. Interdisciplinary Minors provide individuated pathways that would permit students to acquire interdisciplinary skillsets and opt for a set of subjects that complement studies in one’s major or explore an unrelated area of intellectual interest. General Electives are offered to the students to help them enhance their personality and develop interests in specific areas like personality development, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and professional ethics etc.

Students who choose Bachelor of Apparel Merchandising & Management (Bachelor of AMM) program as their field of study can specialize in the study area of apparel product development, construction and in apparel business management.

Studies in apparel products development focus on cotton products, menswear, womenswear and childrenwear. Students acquire comprehensive insights and skills in all fields of apparel construction, such as prototype pattern design, stenciling, style construction and correct fit. Courses in production planning and control, ISO & compliance, ergonomics, with a particular focus on the special features of the apparel industry, prepare students ideally for executive management positions in the fields of apparel construction, apparel product manufacturing and apparel business management.

This program trains young professionals for the highly diverse and versatile range of technical and business administration tasks in the apparel industry. Studies also focus on specialized fields of apparel manufacturing production techniques and processes. This knowledge is complemented by offering extended studies in fields of business administration and ergonomics. A knowledge of quality management, cost accounting and specialized IT systems rounds off the students' skills and competencies.

The program consists of eight academic semesters and a total of 140 credits. Each semester is subdivided into modules from the fields of: core courses (apparel merchandising & management) humanities, business and other allied fields of study. The degree program is completed with an 8-week internship which the students do in a company, followed by the production of a Bachelor's Thesis (Final Year Project, FYP).

Accreditation of the Program

The syllabus for Bachelor of Apparel Merchandising & Management has been designed by reunion textile academics as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, accordingly has been verified and approved by the proper authority nominated by the UGC.

The objectives of Bachelor of Apparel Merchandising & Management (AMM) program are as follows:

PEO 1: Graduates of Bachelor in Apparel Merchandising & Management (AMM) will be capable enough to handle the tasks and responsibilities of the RMG and other allied sectors such as Research and Development, Sourcing and Negotiation, Supply Chain Management, Merchandising after their program completion.
PEO 2: Graduates of Bachelor in Apparel Merchandising & Management (AMM) will be able to perform their assigned merchandising tasks after successful completion of their degree.
PEO 3: Graduates of Bachelor in Apparel Merchandising & Management (AMM) will become competent and open enough for immersion in the modern age, innovative leadership with research and development, workshops, seminars, resource persons and lifelong learning through this program.

Program Learning Outcomes [PLOs]

Apparel Merchandising & Management graduates will be able to:

PLO 1: Technical Knowledge: Start working in the production and technical sites immediately after the program completion with their learned knowledge about mathematics, textile manufacturing and other technical knowledges
PLO 2: Managerial knowledge: Successfully negotiate and follow up the managerial and marketing responsibilities assigned to them from apparel and other textiles and related sectors.
PLO 3: Problem solving: Identify, formulate, analyzing the route and finding the best possible alternative for solving particular problem related to apparel or textile production, management, marketing and other related sectors.
PLO 4: Uses of modern technology: Find, create and learn the appropriate technological tools to use them for particular problem for getting the work done.
