BUFT Chairman Graces BGWTF 14th Get-Together as Chief Guest

The Bangladesh Garments Washing Technologists Foundation (BGWTF) celebrated its 14th Grand Get-Together on 2 May 2025 at KG Eco Resort in Savar, bringing together leading industry professionals and members from the garment washing sector.

Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and former BGMEA President, attended the day-long event as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the challenges in the RMG sector, including energy shortages and post-LDC graduation hurdles, and stressed the need for innovation and collaboration to stay competitive. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT, was present as the Special Guest, further strengthening BUFT’s engagement with industry stakeholders.

Organized by BGWTF President Md. Abdus Samad and moderated by General Secretary Engr. Mahasinuzzaman Shishir, the event also featured other distinguished guests and recognized top-performing washing units with development awards. The vibrant gathering included cultural activities, a fashion show, and discussions on industry advancement, reflecting BGWTF's commitment to professional development and social welfare.

BUFT Student Wins Save the Children, Invest in Women's Innovation Challenge

Md. Tayab Mridha, a talented student from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), and his team have emerged as the winners of the "Save the Children, Invest in Women's Innovation Challenge" among over 150 competing ideas from across Bangladesh. This remarkable achievement highlights their dedication, innovation, and commitment to driving meaningful change in society.

Tayab Mridha has consistently demonstrated his passion for impactful initiatives. Previously, he secured a €3,000 grant from the BYLC Social Hackathon for his outstanding work and was among the Top 8 finalists at the National Youth Summit organized by the ICT Division, standing out among hundreds of ideas from Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions.

Adding to his impressive list of accolades, Tayab has also been honored with the National Volunteer Award 2024, a prestigious recognition presented by VSO Bangladesh for his incredible contributions to social development. BUFT takes immense pride in celebrating such an inspiring student whose achievements continue to set new benchmarks in social innovation and leadership.

BUFT Faculty Explores Traditional Jamdani Weaving at Jamdani Polli

BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) conducted an enriching visit to Jamdani Polli, Narayanganj, on February 19, 2025, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean, Faculty of Apparel Studies, BUFT. The visit aimed to explore the craftsmanship, understand the weaving process, and engage with the local artisans who continue to preserve this treasured art form.

Jamdani Polli is renowned for its exquisite Jamdani sarees, a testament to Bangladesh’s rich textile heritage. During the visit, faculty members and students had the opportunity to witness firsthand the meticulous process of Jamdani weaving. Local artisans demonstrated the intricate techniques involved in creating these sarees, showcasing their expertise in developing elaborate patterns and vibrant colors.

Prof. Chowdhury emphasized the importance of preserving traditional weaving methods while integrating contemporary innovations. He stated, “Jamdani weaving is an invaluable cultural heritage of Bangladesh. This visit allows us to appreciate the dedication of the artisans and explore ways to support and promote their craftsmanship on a broader scale.”

The visit also served as an educational initiative for BUFT students, enabling them to gain practical insights into the heritage craft and its significance in the fashion and textile industry. The university remains committed to bridging the gap between traditional artisanship and modern fashion education, ensuring that the legacy of Jamdani weaving continues to thrive.
