BDT. 7 Crore spent on Scholarship and Tuition Waiver

  • In 2026, BUFT distributed over 7 crore Taka to meritorious, freedom fighters' children and poor but meritorious students.

Scholarship Policies

BUFT offers a wide range generous scholarships on the following policies:
  1. Merit Scholarship during Admission:

    The following students will be awarded merit scholarship (tuition fee waiver) at entry level (only in first semester) in all under graduate programs:

    1. Candidate scoring GPA 5.00 (excluding 4th subject) in the SSC & HSC/ Equivalent examinations will get 100% tuition fee waiver for the most recent passing academic year, 50% tuition fee waiver for the preceding passing year and 25% tuition fee waiver for the next preceding passing year.
    2. Candidate scoring 5 ‘A’ in ‘O’ Level and 3 ‘A’ in ‘A’ Level, will get 100% tuition fee waiver for the most recent passing academic year, 50% tuition fee waiver for the preceding passing year and 25% tuition fee waiver for the next preceding passing year.
    3. Candidate scoring GPA 5.00 with 4th subject in SSC and HSC/ Equivalent examination will get 25% waiver on tuition fees.
    4.  Candidate scoring 4 ‘A’ in ‘O’ Level and 2 ‘A’ in ‘A’ Level will get 25% waiver on tuition fees.
    5. BUFT graduates, seeking admission in the MBA/M.Sc./MA programs with CGPA 4.00, will be awarded 25% waiver (tuition fee waiver) upon his/her admission only in 1st semester and after that, result based waiver will be followed.
    6. On the basis of admission test result Top 5 (Five) scorers in the Admission Test for all Programs (with minimum score of 75%) of BUFT will be awarded 25% waiver on their tuition fees only in the 1st Semester.

    Note: Above waiver rate also shall be applicable for a student in following semesters subject to maintenance of at least GPA and CGPA =>3.70.

  2. Program wise Special Tuition fee discount:

    In order to attract the students, the following program will be given special tuition fee waiver as follows:

    1. 25% discount for Environmental Science (ES) for the 1st to 8th
    2. 15% discount for B.Sc. in Knitwear Engineering (KE) for 1st to 8th
    3. 5% discount for B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering (IE) for 1st to 8th
    4. 15% discount for B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) for 1st to 8th
    5. 25% discount for B.A Hons in English in 1st Semester and 20% discount for 2nd to 8th
    6. 5% discount for Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) for 1st to 8th
    7. 10% discount for MBA program for 1st to 4th
    8. 15% discount for M. Sc. in Textile, M.Sc. in Fashion for 1st semester and 15% discount for those coming from BUFT for 2nd to 3rd
  3. BUFT students of the Post Graduate/Undergraduate programs will be entitled to get tuition fee waiver as described below:

    a.     BUFT will follow Govt./UGC policy of 100% waiver to be awarded to the children of the Freedom Fighters and Poor but Meritorious students of remote areas of Bangladesh subject to fulfilment of the following conditions:                                                                                                                                                                                                      *Children of Freedom Fighter must apply formally enclosing the following documents as per requirements of Ministry of Liberation War Affairs: (i). Attested copy of Shamoik Shonod of freedom fighter from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. (ii). Attested copy of Bangladesh Gazette of the freedom fighter. (iii). Attested copy of Mukbarta of the freedom fighter. (iv). Attested copy of the National ID or Birth Certificate of freedom fighter. (v). MIS number with the proof of allowance (Bank statement) getting as a freedom fighter.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        * For the poor but meritorious students following documents to be submitted to BUFT authority:  (i). Proof of financial condition of parent from union parishad Chairman/ Ward Commissioner. (ii). Number of children(s) of the parent. (iii). Properties of parents duly certified by union parishad Chairman/ Ward Commissioner. (iv). Application for waiver from the parent/guardian of poor student. (v).  Extract from the statement of Tax file including wealth assessment (if students’ parents/guardian have TIN number).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     b. Special Tuition Fee Waiver for Students, affected by July Uprising Movement                                                                                                                                              Eligible student/s affected by the July Uprising Movement, subject to submission of proper documents, proper verification and approval by the authority, shall be entitled to a 100% tuition fee waiver. The student, must apply formally enclosing the following documents:                                                                                                                                  (i)  Attested copy of National ID (NID) Card or Birth Certificate of affected student/s of July Uprising Movement.                                                                                                  (ii) Attested copy of Bank Account Details of affected student/s of July Uprising Movement. (A copy of the bank statement, active cheque book leaf, or routing number verification slip for fund disbursement.)                                                                                                                                                                                                                            (iii) Attested copy of Medical / Treatment Proof of affected student/s of July Uprising Movement. (Hospital discharge certificate, prescription, or official proof of treatment/injury from recognized medical facilities.)                                                                                                                                                                                              (iv) Attested copy of Medical Case ID / Verification ID of affected student/s of July Uprising Movement. (Specific case identification number if listed under the uprising tracking records.)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             (v) Attested copy of Gazette holding Verification Serial Number of affected student/s of July Uprising Movement from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. (Official proof or reference number showing inclusion in the verified list of affected by the July Uprising Movement.)

    c. 25% tuition fee waiver shall be awarded to the Siblings/Couple and Tribal Students at entry level subject to submission of following documents:                                                  1. Siblings student: National ID card of Parents.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    2. Couple student: Registered marriage certificate.                                                                                                                                                                                                                      3. Tribal student: Certificate from tribal chief.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

    4. *Students have to maintain at least GPA and CGPA => 3.25 in each semester final examination of BUFT to continue with 25% waiver.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            d. 10% waiver on tuition fees for the female students only at entry level to attract more female students.                                                                                                                          e. Son and daughter of BUFT Alumni will get 10% waiver on tuition fees only at entry level.                                                                                                                                                        

  •  Tuition fee waiver for Faculty members, Officers, staffs and theirs children

    BUFT faculty members, officers, staffs and their children shall get 50% waiver on tuition fee if they qualify for study in BUFT. Chairman of BUFT may extend waiver up to 75% by his discretionary power.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             N.B.- BUFT Faculty members who will get 50% tuition fee waiver, will not be eligible for waiver in teaching load or vise versa.                                                                                                   

  • Waiver on Special Ground:

    Tuition fee waiver on special ground shall be awarded under following consideration by the Chairman of Board of Trustees of BUFT:

    1. Tuition fee waiver to the students against each application will be considered on special ground at the discretion of the Chairman, Board of Trustees of BUFT. Waiver percentage (20%-75%) shall be decided by the Chairman of BUFT.
    2. International Level Performer can avail 100% tuition fee waiver as special waiver for first semester. The waiver may continue in subsequent semesters based on a review of the student's performance and engagement in both academic and sports activities in International level.
    3. National Level Performer can avail 50% tuition fee waiver as special waiver for first semester. Continuation of the waiver in the following semesters will depend on a semester-wise performance review. 
    4. For Celebrities

      ·      The applicant must be a well-known public figure with verified recognition in their respective field (e.g., media, arts, entertainment, and social influence).

      ·        Eligible students will receive a 75% tuition fee waiver in the 1st semester.

      ·      Continuation of the waiver in subsequent semesters will be subject to a review of their performance, engagement, and contribution to the university’s image and activities.

    5. National level team member can avail 50% tuition fee waiver as special waiver for all semester if he/she passes all the exams in each semester (preferring at least GPA and CGPA =>3.00). Proof of the National level player, achievements and performances has to be produced.  

    6. Waiver percentage on tuition fees (poor and humanitarian ground only) shall be decided by the Chairman of BUFT unless otherwise stated by the BOT.                                                         
  • Waiver on Academic Result in each Semester

    Tuition fee waiver list on academic excellence with reference to target results (GPA=>3.70) shall be prepared and recommend by the Head of the Departments and concerned Dean of each Faculty. Tuition fee waiver recommendations shall be reviewed and finalize by a waiver review committee of BUFT, before placing it to BUFT chairman for approval.

  • Processing of Tuition Fee Waiver Application:
    1. A student get the merit waiver shall not get any other waiver. Department waiver will not be considered here.
    2. Students must apply for tuition fee waiver within a given time-frame as decided by the BUFT authority. Applicants should apply in a given format (to be collected from the Registrar’s Section/ concerned department) along with necessary papers/documents as applicable. Incomplete application forms will be regretted. The concerned departmental Administrative Officer will check the form and documents properly. If any discrepancy arises the concerned Administrative Officer and the Department will be responsible for this. The Tuition fee waiver applications of the students will be processed as per the following guidelines::
    3. The minimum Grade required for a student to be eligible for merit Tuition Fee Waiver application, should be =>3.70 (GPA and CGPA) but waiver will be given on GPA.
    4. The minimum Grade required for a student to be eligible for regular Tuition Fee Waiver application should be 3.0 (GPA and CGPA) for faculty member of BUFT/ officer of BUFT/ BGMEA employee’s children.
    5. The tuition fee waiver applications of the students should be processed in every semester through the committees formed by the BUFT authority. List of students awarded waiver and scholarship should be submitted to the BOT for information and final approval.
    6. The concerned Heads of the Departments should recommend the tuition fee waiver applications of the students through his/her dean of faculties as per the following guideline:
      1. GPA 3.70-3.79 will get 20% waiver
      2. GPA 3.80-3.89 will get 25% waiver
      3. GPA 3.90-3.99 will get 30% waiver
      4. GPA 4.00 will get 40% waiver

    •                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              9. Discontinuation of Scholarship/Tuition Fee Waiver:

    1. Scholarship/Tuition fee waiver for the BUFT students of the Postgraduate and Under graduate programs may be discontinued under the following circumstances:
    2. If the recipient drops a semester, he / She would not get any benefit of the approved period for scholarship/tuition fee waiver. Financial waiver would strictly be limited to 07 semesters instead of 08 (as there are only a few credit courses on including Internship, Projects, Viva etc., in the last semester it has been excluded from the waiver policy on Poor and Humanitarian) for students of all undergraduate programs. For Post Graduate Program of MBA, this duration is maximum 04 semesters with effect from his/her first admission. The scholarship/tuition fee waiver would automatically be discontinued after this time bar.
    3. Tuition fee waiver will discontinue with immediate effect if the student is delinquent in any way or if the GPA is less than the required limit or on completion of her/his required credits for degree. Also, it will automatically discontinue for unauthorized absence in any semester by the student. In any case, revival of such assistance might be considered on receipt of fresh application from the student in due course.
    4. Tuition fee waiver would not be extended to 'Retake' any course i.e. if a student retakes any course(s), he /She would pay full tuition fee for that particular subject.
    5. A student convicted on any disciplinary ground at BUFT will lose his/her right to enjoy any Tuition Fee waiver which he/she might be enjoying currently.
    6. Attendance in classes of at least 75% must be maintained for receiving any type of tuition fee waiver.

    Note: Waiver policy may be changed by BUFT authorities if/when necessary.

    Students will be considered for any of the above mentioned Tuition Fee Waiver/Scholarship at one time as applicable. Students must apply for scholarship/tuition fee waiver within a given time-frame as decided by the BUFT authority.
