BUFT Students Lead at the 2024 SDC International Design Competition
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students at the prestigious 2024 Society of Dyers and Colorists (SDC) International Design Competition, held on October 28, 2024. This internationally recognized event promotes sustainable and socially responsible fashion, gathering top undergraduate talent from universities worldwide to display their innovative designs.
BUFT honors the exceptional success of its students: Mijanur Rahaman Mijan, winner from the BFS department; Nayem Ar Rahman Khan, first runner-up from the FDT department; Dorothy Mohosin, second runner-up from BFS; and Sadia Ul Mim, second runner-up from FDT. These accomplishments underscore BUFT’s dedication to fostering creativity, sustainability, and social responsibility in the fashion industry. A special thanks to Afsana Ferdousi, BUFT alumni, SDC Bangladesh judge, and regional coordinator, whose mentorship played a crucial role in inspiring these students to excel. Mijanur Rahaman Mijan’s victory as Bangladesh’s representative underscores BUFT's role in fostering young designers dedicated to sustainability and responsible fashion.
The competition took place at Alliant Ltd, Gulshan, Dhaka, with esteemed judges including Afsana Ferdousi, Sustainable Fashion Designer and International Fashion Judge; Sanjeewa Malaviarachchi, Chartered Colourist and Head of Wet Processing at A&E; Sarmily Sarker, Head of the Fashion Studies Department at BUFT; and Md. Aktaruzzaman, Executive Director of Alliant Ltd. These remarkable achievements solidify BUFT’s position as a leader in fashion education, committed to shaping a sustainable and innovative future for the industry.
BUFT Leaders Meet UGC Chairman to Strengthen Higher Education Initiatives
A distinguished delegation from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) met with Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC), on 5 November 2024, to discuss strategic developments focused on enhancing higher education. The BUFT delegation included Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Mr. Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, Founding Member of the Board of Trustees, BUFT and Founder Chairman of CBUFT; Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of BUFT; Distinguished Professor Md. Muinuddin Khan, Dean of FBS & FASS; and Mr. Md. Rafiquzzaman, Registrar.
The meeting covered key topics such as curriculum enhancement, research funding, and strengthening industry partnerships to meet the evolving needs of Bangladesh’s education landscape. Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz expressed appreciation for BUFT’s initiatives, affirming UGC’s support in fostering innovation and developing future talent. This productive discussion underscores BUFT’s commitment to advancing its academic programs and positively impacting the nation’s higher education sector. Among those present at the meeting were Prof. Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, both Members of UGC; Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Secretary of UGC; and Dr. Sultan Mahmud Bhuiyan, Director of the Private University Division, UGC.
