The BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) Career Development Club (BCDC) had the esteemed privilege of participating in a deeply impactful volunteer initiative on August 14, 2024. This meaningful effort was in collaboration with the Grameen Euglena team at the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR/Pongu), where our members had the opportunity to directly contribute to the well-being of patients in need.

We would like to express our profound gratitude to Grameen Euglena for this exceptional opportunity to serve and make a positive impact. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Excellence Bangladesh for their crucial role in facilitating this new and promising collaboration.

Grameen Euglena stands as a remarkable example of international cooperation and social responsibility. As a joint social business venture between Japan and Bangladesh, it is guided by the visionary leadership of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, with the generous support of Japanese philanthropist Mr. Mitsuru Izumo. Together, they are committed to providing essential assistance to hospital patients, bringing hope and healing to those who need it most.

BUFT Pro VC's Visit to Manchester Metropolitan University and Attendance at the Digital Fashion Innovation Conference

Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, the Pro Vice Chancellor of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), embarked on a collaborative visit to Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) from July 2 to 4, 2024. He attended the 2024 Digital Fashion Innovation Conference (DFIC), which was jointly organized by BUFT and the Manchester Fashion Institute, MMU.

During his visit, Prof. Dr. Khan met with the Academic Lead for International and Reader in Fashion Marketing at the Manchester Fashion Institute. They discussed areas of mutual interest and potential future collaboration between the two institutions. Prof. Dr. Khan delivered a welcome speech and chaired two sessions at the conference. Additionally, Ms. Urmila Jenny, an Assistant Professor, Department of FDT, BUFT, presented a research paper at the conference. Prof. Dr. Khan also met with Dr. Prashad, Professor of Robotics and Textile Composites at the University of Manchester, and several postgraduate researchers from Bangladesh.

Moreover, he had productive meetings with Jess Power, President of the Textile Institute and Dean of the School of Creative Design Technology; the Associate Dean of International Partnership at Salford University; and Andrew Filarowski, Technical Director and Deputy CEO of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC). The visit was organized at the invitation of Dr. Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem, Chief Investigator of the Digital Fashion Network Project, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) in the UK.

Collaborative Project between BUFT, University of Groningen, and BAE

BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and the Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) have jointly launched an innovation program titled “Circular Textile Hackathon” on 6 June 2024 at BUFT's permanent campus in Nishatnagar, Turag, Dhaka. This project, part of the Circular Textile Hackathon for RVO Orange Corner and supported by the Dutch Agency for Entrepreneurship (RVO), aims to foster innovation and promote circular economy practices within the Bangladeshi textile industry.

The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr. Md. Shafiul Islam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of BUFT. Other notable attendees included BUFT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. S. M. Mahfuzur Rahman, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Eng. Ayub Nabi Khan, Mr. Titus van der Spek, Senior Researcher at The Hague University of Applied Science and Valorization Researcher at the University of Groningen, Mr. Kim Poldner, Faculty at the University of Groningen, Mr. Mostafiz Uddin, Founder and CEO of Bangladesh Apparel Exchange, Mr. Khalid Hossain, Partnership Lead at Bangladesh Apparel Exchange, Ms. Tanzila Tajreen, Senior Policy Advisor for Private Sector Development Economic Affairs at the Netherlands Embassy, Mr. Ashim Rahman, Policy Advisor for Business Development at the Netherlands Embassy, Ms. Sharmily Sarker Mishu, Head, Department of Fashion Studies of BUFT, Mr. Rayed Barkat, Assistant Professor, Department of Fashion Studies of BUFT, and Mr. Mohammed Masum Billah, Associate Professor in the Department of Business Administration at BUFT. Additionally, the event was attended by the Treasurer, Deans, and Academic and Administrative Heads.

The program, titled “Circularity Through Design Thinking Collaboration Project,” is a collaborative effort involving the University of Groningen, Netherlands Enterprise Agency, Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), and BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT).
