BUFT Awards Top Young Readers at Book Reading Competition – Spring 2025
The Department of English at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) organized a grand Prize-Giving Ceremony for the Book Reading Competition – Spring 2025 on August 17 at the university’s Multipurpose Hall. The event celebrated the literary achievements of the 251 batch, who had participated in the competition held on May 28, 2025.
The ceremony was graced by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BUFT, as Chief Guest, who delivered an inspiring speech encouraging students to pursue literature and lifelong learning. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Acting Vice Chancellor, emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering a strong reading and writing culture.
The program began with a welcome speech by Ms. Shahriar Parvin, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of English, followed by remarks from Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ali Azgor Talukder of the Department of English and Professor Md. Muinuddin Khan, Dean of FBS & FASS. All speakers highlighted the importance of intellectual growth through reading.
Out of 1,048 registered students, 607 from the 251 batch participated in the competition. Among them, 95 successfully passed the test, and 15 top performers received prizes from the Chief Guest. The top three winners were specially recognized with scholarships: first place went to Tasmia Nusrat Tiana of the FDT Department (ID: 251-037-501), who received Tk. 50,000; second place was awarded to Mst. Nadia Islam Shima of the Environmental Science Department (ID: 251-006-221), who received Tk. 40,000; and third place went to Emam Hossain Nayeem of the AMT Department (ID: 251-039-101), who received Tk. 30,000. These scholarships will be adjusted against their upcoming semester’s tuition fees.
The Department of English extended heartfelt congratulations to all participants and expressed sincere appreciation to faculty members, students, and organizers for making the event a resounding success.
Prominent Fashion Leaders Visit BUFT to Explore Strategic Partnerships
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) proudly welcomed distinguished guests from the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh (FDCB) Ms. Maheen Khan, President; Mr. Shaibal Saha, General Secretary and Fashion Design Consultant, along with celebrated fashion designer Mr. Shahrukh Amin of the Almira brand and Ms. Rushmita Alam, Professor at the School of Fashion, Seneca Polytechnic, Toronto, Canada.
They were warmly received by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BUFT, and Ms. Sharmin Hassan. Also present were Ms. Sarmily Sarker Mishu, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Fashion Studies, and Mr. Md. Ariful Islam, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Fashion Design & Technology.
The visit featured in-depth discussions on forging future academic collaborations to further strengthen BUFT’s ties with Bangladesh’s vibrant fashion industry. The guests later toured BUFT’s state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and facilities, gaining an inside view of the university’s commitment to excellence in fashion education.
BUFT Inaugurates Shaheed Selim Talukder Memorial Plaque in Solemn Ceremony
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) honored the legacy of Shaheed Md. Selim Talukder with the official inauguration of the Shaheed Memorial Plaque at the BUFT campus on 14 August 2025. The ceremony paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the martyred hero of July 2024.
The memorial plaque was inaugurated by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the BUFT Board of Trustees. The ceremony was attended by Shaheed Selim Talukder’s father Mr. Md. Sultan Talukder, and his sister Jannatul Ferdoushi Akhi, along with university dignitaries including Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, the Treasurer, Deans, Heads of academic and administrative departments, faculty members, officers, and students.
The program highlighted BUFT’s dedication to preserving the memory of national heroes and fostering patriotism among students. Attendees paid homage through speeches, Doa, and a moment of silence, making the ceremony a dignified and memorable occasion.
