Visit to Bangladesh National Herbarium by BUFT Environmental Science Department
Students from the Environmental Science Department of BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), Turag, Dhaka, participated in an educational field trip to the Bangladesh National Herbarium in Mirpur, Dhaka on January 8, 2025. Organized by Assistant Professor Biddut Chandra Sarker, the visit focused on the theme "Sustainability through Biodiversity Conservation," aiming to deepen students' understanding of plant biodiversity, conservation methods, and their role in fostering sustainability.
Dr. Sarder Nasir Uddin, Principal Scientific Officer at the National Herbarium, served as the chief guest, offering an insightful presentation on the institution's history, significance, and techniques, as well as an overview of Bangladesh’s flora and taxonomy. Dr. Mostofa Kamal Pasha, Retired Professor of Botany at Chittagong University, emphasized the critical link between biodiversity conservation and the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector. Khandakar Kamrul Islam, Scientific Officer, provided detailed insights into herbarium preparation, including sample collection, preservation, and conservation.
Representing BUFT, Dr. Mohammad Shohrab Hossain Sarker, Assistant Professor & Head of the Environmental Science Department; Dr. Shahin Hossain, Associate Professor; Biddut Chandra Sarker; and Sadia Taz Oyshi, Lab Instructor, joined the event.
Students explored the herbarium museum, examined diverse plant specimens, and collected valuable data for academic research. This visit significantly enhanced their understanding of biodiversity conservation practices and their relevance to sustainable development, particularly within Bangladesh’s RMG industry.

The Great Comeback: A Dazzling Revival at BUFT
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) hosted The Great Comeback, an extraordinary event organized by the Department of Fashion Studies. The show, featuring the creative works of 7th-semester students, blended fashion, drama, and dance into a vibrant celebration of art and innovation.
The event showcased collections inspired by the July Revolution, the Sundarbans, and cultural elements like Natya Nivedana, Bharatnatyam, and the Palki. Classical dance, folk music, and a heartfelt tribute to Sadia Islam Mou added to the evening’s charm. Distinguished guests included Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BUFT & Managing Director of Giant Group; Mr. Abdullah Hil Rakib, Member of BUFT’s BoT & Managing Director of Team Group; Mrs. Sharmeen Hassan; Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor (Acting) of BUFT; Mr. Luo Jianjun (Mr. Louis), Founder and CEO of MU Bigdata Technology Co. Ltd.; and Mr. Zhu Linhai (Mr. Ironhide), Partner and CMO of MU Bigdata Technology Co. Ltd.
The event concluded with a deeply emotional performance in tribute to the lives lost in Palestine, followed by designs symbolizing hope and solidarity. Under the supervision of Nadia Tasnim Piya, Assistant Professor of Fashion Studies, the show highlighted BUFT’s commitment to nurturing talent, creativity, and resilience. The Great Comeback was not just a fashion show but a profound celebration of culture, unity, and artistic revival.

BUFT Debating Team Triumphs in Shadow Parliament Debate
In a compelling shadow parliament debate held on January 4, 2025, titled "The social defeat of the Awami League surpasses its political defeat due to the July killings" the debating team from BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) emerged victorious, defeating their counterparts from Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT). The competition, organized by Debate for Democracy, took place at its auditorium.
The event was presided over by Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman of Debate for Democracy, with Prof. Abul Kasem Fazlul Haque, President of the Bangla Academy, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. A distinguished panel of judges, including Prof. Abu Mohammad Rois, Dr. S. M. Morshed, Dr. Tazul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, media personality K. M. Mahmud Hasan, and journalist Jahanara Parveen, evaluated the participants' performances.
At the conclusion of the debate, the BUFT team was awarded trophies, crests, and certificates, recognizing their outstanding analytical and oratory skills. The event celebrated the importance of constructive discourse and youth engagement in addressing national issues through debate.
