Grand Opening of Mr. Merchandiser 2025 at BUFT
BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) Merchandising Club (BMC) proudly launched Mr. Merchandiser 2025, an innovative and creative competition designed to nurture the next generation of merchandising talent. The grand opening ceremony, held on January 8, 2025, featured the first seminar titled "What Are You Not Doing?"
Sponsored by Essential Apparel Ltd., Daarkak, and Kolahol, with corporate partnership from the Textile Institute, the program provided a dynamic platform for budding merchandisers to showcase their skills and creativity. Participants had the opportunity to engage in a competitive environment, learn from industry leaders, and gain valuable insights into the ever-evolving textile and apparel sector.
The event was graced by prominent guests, including Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the BUFT Board of Trustees and Managing Director of Giant Group, who delivered an inspiring inaugural speech. Special guest and keynote speaker, Mr. Habibur Rahman, a Smart Factory 4.0 Consultant for the textile and apparel industry, shared invaluable perspectives on the future of merchandising.
Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor (Acting) of BUFT, along with Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean of Apparel Studies, and Ms. Farhana Jannat, Head of the Apparel Merchandising and Management Department, were also present to encourage and support participants. This initiative celebrates innovation, leadership, and collaboration, offering participants a unique platform to excel in the world of textile and apparel merchandising. BUFT and A&E Ltd Sign MoU to Foster Industry-Academia Collaboration
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and American & Efird (Bangladesh) Ltd (A&E) formalized their commitment to strengthening industry-academia collaboration through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 9, 2025. The signing ceremony, held at BUFT’s permanent campus, was led by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) at BUFT, and Mr. Syed Arefin, Managing Director of A&E.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive partnership aimed at advancing research, education, skill development, and industrial exposure. Initiatives under the collaboration include internship programs, industry visits, technical workshops, and the establishment of a small-scale yarn dyeing lab at BUFT. A&E has also pledged to refurbish and maintain the “A&E Design Studio” on campus while providing sewing thread supplies to support educational activities. As part of the agreement, A&E will introduce an annual award to recognize the best-performing student across multiple BUFT departments, promoting academic excellence and inspiring students. Furthermore, biannual factory tours to A&E’s Gazipur manufacturing facility will provide BUFT students with valuable practical insights into the textile and fashion industries.
Distinguished guests at the event included Mr. Iftekhar Hussain, Director of GRS-Asia Region at A&E; Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT; and Prof. Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, Treasurer of BUFT. The ceremony concluded with an exchange of mementos, marking the beginning of a transformative partnership aimed at driving innovation and excellence in Bangladesh’s textile and fashion sectors.

BUFT Signs MoU with MU Bigdata Technology Co. Ltd
BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MU Bigdata Technology Co. Ltd. on 7 January 2025, establishing a partnership to advance academic collaboration, research, training, and industry exposure. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor (Acting) of BUFT, and Mr. Luo Jianjun (Mr. Louis), Founder and CEO of MU Bigdata Technology Co. Ltd., in the presence of Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BUFT; Mr. Zhu Linhai (Mr. Ironhide), Partner and Chief Marketing Officer of MU Bigdata Technology Co. Ltd.; and Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Apparel Studies (FAS), BUFT.
Under this partnership, MU Bigdata will provide academic software, training, and global industry exposure opportunities, including visits to world-class factories such as those associated with UNIQLO and DECATHLON. The collaboration, set for five years with potential extension, reaffirms BUFT’s commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge technology and global learning opportunities.
