About

Dr. Eng. Abu Bakr Siddique currently holds the position of Dean of FTE & FAS and has been working at BUFT since 2016. He earned his PhD in Textile Process Engineering from Stuttgart University, Germany in 2003. Prior that he completed his MSc in Textile and Clothing Engineering from Technical University, Dresden, Germany. He is a BSc in Mechanical Engineering graduate from BUET, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Dr. Abu Bakr served as Professor and Head of Department of Textile Engineering at European University of Bangladesh. He also served as Associate Professor of Department of Textile Engineering at Primeasia University. He also worked as an adjunct faculty at Bangladesh University of Textiles and Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University.

Dr. Siddique started his career as Production Officer at Padma Textile Mills Ltd. and later on worked as General Manager and CEO of Sunman Textile Industrial State and General Manager of Arkay Textile Mills Ltd. He worked as post-doc research associate at German Institute for Textile and Fiber Research.

Dr. Bakr worked as consultant of department of textile (DOT) at a large project under the ministry of textile and jute and as consultant of different reputed textile industries in Bangladesh. He has good command over application software used in textile sectors.

Currently he is working on a wide range of research activities along the whole textile production chain. His research interests include innovative works for the development of textile machinery, high-performance and renewable textile fibers, special yarns, fabric manufacturing and fabric structure design, wet-processing engineering, innovative/intelligent/smart products and technical textiles, environmental textiles, apparel manufacturing, knitwear manufacturing, and recycling technologies etc.

Teaching/Research Specialization

Dr. Siddique has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of industry, research, teaching, management, process and product developments.

Research work and patents:

  • New type of CSB (Compact Size Box) design, which gives the thermal equilibrium and save sizing materials and energy during sizing.
  • Pre-washing/heating during sizing a new technique (simulation machine) has been developed.
  • Research and development work for textile industries: an universal textile machine capable of making sized beams, dyeing multi-color yarn, dyeing of fabric and INDIGO dyeing.
  • Textile fiber composites (glass fiber concrete, plastic composites).
