The HEST project of GIZ - BUFT - AUST is organizing a 3-day long ‘Advanced Training on: Resource Efficient Management of Chemicals’ for the faculty members of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST). There will be a total of 12 participants - 06 from each university.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the training program participants will be able to:

- relate to the different key elements of a chemical management system (as per ZDHC CMS Guidance manual), national requirements and international buyers’ expectations,

- identify and document chemicals and chemical waste (Non-Product Outputs - NPOs) and critical areas using flow-diagram and eco-mapping methodologies,

- prepare (and amend existing) chemical inventory/register of chemicals to be used as chemical management information too,

- identify and distinguish between hazards, effects and risks as well as possible types of exposure,

- categorize, classify and prioritize chemicals by hazards and hazard bands for possible prioritization of interventions,

- distinguish the various labels and markings as per Global Harmonized Systems (GHS) and other common chemical label systems,

- assess completeness and quality of safety data sheets as provided by chemical suppliers,

- extract relevant information from safety data sheets (e.g. standard GHS format) for identification of control gaps and selection of control and emergency preventive measures (risk control hierarchy, including introduction to personal protective equipment),

- carry out chemical risk assessment; identify control gaps and chemicals/processes of concerns,

- prepare workstation specific work instructions for safe handling of chemicals; identify scope for improvement in their own company and prepare action plan for addressing the same,

- assess the compatibility in storage of chemicals and arrange chemicals considering productivity, safety and health considerations,

- select exposure control measures, including appropriate personal protective equipment.
