On behalf of Textile Institute, UK HE the British High Commissioner Ms. Alison Blake CMG handed over Holden Medal Award for Education 2018 to Prof. Dr. Khan. He is the first Bangladeshi received this award. His family members and other textile professionals were present on the occasion.

Dr. Ayub Nabi Khan received the International ‘Holden Medal Award’

The Textile Institute awards ceremony 2018 successfully held where medals were presented to the global recipients in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the textile industry.

Prof Dr. Engg. Ayub Nabi Khan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), is the first Bangladeshi who won the International Holden Medal for Education award by ‘The Textile Institute, Manchester, UK’ for his outstanding contributions in technology-based education at the levels.

Under the authority of the Textile Institute (TI) Council, annually a number of medals and awards are conferred upon individuals and organizations in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the textile industries and/or the work of the Textile Institute itself. Both highlights in the Institute’s calendar of events, the awards ceremony were part of the 91st Textile Institute World Conference in Leeds, UK. The Award Ceremony and gala dinner took place at The Royal Armories in Leeds – the UK’s oldest museum on 23 August that holds one of the largest collections of arms and armor in the world.

According to a press release, the Textile Institute’s awards have a number of categories in key industry areas, such as sustainability, international research, innovation, young talent, design and more. The theme for the 2018 conference was ‘Integrating Design with Sustainable Technology’ – a concept being recognized globally as of great importance to the future of textiles. Xiros, one of the conference sponsors, was awarded The TI New Materials Award for their work and research in the development, design, and manufacture of products to the medical profession. One of the most respected awards of the night – the Companion Membership Award – went to Frank Moore, former Head of Merchandise Standards at John Lewis Group. He expressed, “I am delighted to receive this unexpected award in recognition of the work I have undertaken in developing good safety and quality standards.” The young talent award in the textile industry went to Charlotte Moroney. He said, “I’m thrilled to have won the Young Persons award and have my research recognized by The Textile Institute.” “The award will help me to further disseminate my research to a wider, professional audience,” he continued. The TI Research Publication Award is presented to an individual author or group of authors for the most outstanding paper published in The Journal of the Textile Institute – a leading international publication, devoted to research and innovation. The award is sponsored by Taylor and Francis Group. This year’s winners were Sungee Park and Dr. Sundaresan Jayaraman. Scott Yearsley of Taylor and Francis Group said, “Taylor & Francis is proud to publish ‘The Journal of the Textile Institute and Textile Progress on behalf of The Textile Institute. The Research Publication Award recognizes a contribution in the former journal which has been well received by the community, and which combines innovation, flair and solid academic content.” Other awards such as ‘The Institute Medal’-went to Dr. Gerry Leaf, CText FTI, UK and ‘The Textile Institute Innovation Award’ – Revolution Fibers, New Zealand, said the press release.

BUFT Organized the Step Up+ Project Closing Symposium

BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) organized a high-level roundtable discussion on “BUILDING A COMMON VISION FOR AN INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE READY-MADE GARMENTS SECTOR OF BANGLADESH” at the Closing Symposium of the Step Up+ Project on November 13, 2018 at Six Seasons Hotel, Gulshan, Dhaka. Mr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman, President of BGMEA, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The presence of Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Founder Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT, has further increased the glory of this very successfully organized closing event as the Special Guest. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT, Mr. Soren Albertsen, Sector Counsellor of Danish Embassy to Bangladesh, Mr. Thomas Klausen, CEO of Danish Fashion & Textile (DM&T) and Mr. Nikolai Klausen, Director of WEAR, were also present as Special Guests. CEO Ms. Elizabeth Boye of Sociability Denmark was the keynote speaker of the event.

The Step Up+ partnership between BUFT and the Danish partners Dansk Fashion and Textile (DM&T), Confederation of Danish Enterprise, Global Fashion Agenda and Sociability, has focused on building the capacity of BUFT faculties for integration of CSR in existing BUFT curricula for supporting the future leadership of the RMG sector in adopting responsible business practices. By means of strengthening the capacities of BUFT faculties and cementing these learning by incorporating CSR strategically into the curricula across the BUFT courses and programs; it will spark a sectorial development towards enhanced responsible business practice and sector wide awareness. This can also inform dialogue about the business case for CSR and responsible business development among key sector stakeholders. The Step Up+ project wanted to enforce cross-sectorial discussions on the business case of productivity improvements and Strategic CSR, acknowledging the global CSR guidelines as a fundamental part of the way of doing business.

Mr. Md. Siddiqur Rahman mentioned advanced knowledge, critical thinking and cross-sector dialogues among stakeholders as the key elements for a sustainable RMG sector in Bangladesh in his very informative speech. Highlighting BUFT’s continuous emphasize on CSR education, the Founder Chairman Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique said that this project has successfully contributed to the legacy. He also congratulated and handed over the certificates and awards to the thirteen participating BUFT faculties.
