Students of the Department of Fashion Studies of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), Batch BFS_231, showcased contemporary fashion products inspired by the traditional motifs, patterns, and visual heritage of the Kumarkhali Bedsheet, a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bangladesh, at the university's Multipurpose Hall on August 10, 2026. The showcase was organized as part of the course FS02124106 - Traditional Craft in Fashion, taught by Ms. Sarmily Sarker, Assistant Professor, Department of Fashion Studies. As part of their coursework, the students conducted field-based research in Kumarkhali, Kushtia, engaging with local artisans, producers, and industry stakeholders to study the craft's history, cultural significance, motifs, materials, production techniques, craftsmanship, and market practices.

Based on their field research, the students reinterpreted traditional Kumarkhali Bedsheet motifs and design elements into contemporary fashion and dress-material concepts through experimentation with color, surface development, pattern placement, and product applications. The showcase demonstrated how traditional craft can be connected with modern fashion while retaining its cultural identity. The initiative reflects BUFT's emphasis on experiential learning, research-based design education, and preservation and revitalization of Bangladesh's textile and craft heritage. It also explored new creative and market-oriented opportunities for traditional crafts, artisans, and designers.

Masud Rana, Director, Rana Textile, Kumarkhali; Mr. Md. Ayub Ali, Chief (Planning & Implementation), Bangladesh Handloom Board; Mr. Md. Jahedul Alam, APS to the Political Adviser, Prime Minister's Office; Mr. Sk. Saifur Rahman, Consultant, Haal Fashion; Ms. Taslima Jahan, Consultant & Academic, Intellectual Property, Bangladesh; and Mr. Salauddin Yousuf, Director, Lub-rref Bangladesh Limited. Faculty members of the Departments of Fashion Studies and Fashion Design & Technology also attended the showcase. The exhibition presented the students' research documentation, design development, and final product concepts, highlighting the connection between academic research, traditional craftsmanship, and contemporary fashion design.

The Department of Fashion Design & Technology at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) organized "Thread to Trend," an exhibition featuring the industry-inspired product development projects of FDT Batch 231 students, on 3 August 2026. The projects were developed as part of the Product Development and Re-engineering course, highlighting students' creativity, technical expertise, and understanding of modern apparel product development. Supervised by Ms. Kamrun Nahar Naznin, Assistant Professor, students completed the full product development process, including brand, customer, and product research, product re-engineering, design development, collection boards, and professionally executed garment samples.

The projects were further supported through the Computer Aided Design (CAD II) course under the guidance of Mr. Tanjibul Hasan Sajib, Assistant Professor, and Ms. Suraiya Shamanti Islam, Lecturer. They mentored students in pattern making, pattern correction, garment fitting, and test-fit sessions to ensure technical accuracy and quality. The exhibition reflected real-world apparel industry practices by integrating research, design, pattern making, fitting, and sample development. The hands-on experience strengthened students' technical and problem-solving skills while preparing them for careers in the fashion and apparel industry.

The Department of Fashion Design & Technology (FDT) of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) hosted a fashion collection display titled "Vision of Unseen: Where Thought Shapes the Future of Fashion" on August 4, 2026. showcasing original garment collections developed by students of Fashion Design & Technology, Batch 232, as part of their academic coursework under the supervision of Ms. Urmila Mukhtar Jeny, Assistant Professor, FDT. The exhibition highlighted the students' creativity, technical expertise, and commitment to responsible and sustainable fashion design. Through innovative concepts and meticulous craftsmanship, the collections reflected fashion's potential to inspire change, promote sustainability, and shape the future of the industry. The event provided a vibrant platform to celebrate creativity, academic excellence, craftsmanship, and the limitless possibilities of futuristic fashion.

The Guest of Honor was Mr. Belal Hossain, President of the Bangladesh Handicrafts Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Banglacraft) and a Commercially Important Person (CIP) of Bangladesh, who attended the program along with members of his team.

Among the distinguished guests were Mr. Shahid Shamim, Director of PRABARTANA; Mr. Jahangir Hossain, Director General of the Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (DPDT), Ministry of Industries, Government of Bangladesh; and Mr. Salauddin Yousuf, representative of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI). The presence of the distinguished guests added significance to the event, encouraging students to pursue excellence in fashion design while reinforcing the importance of creativity, innovation, sustainability, and industry-academia collaboration. The exhibition celebrated the achievements of the young designers and highlighted BUFT's continued commitment to nurturing future fashion professionals capable of contributing meaningfully to the advancement of Bangladesh's fashion and apparel industry.
