Message from the Vice Chancellor

The primary goal of university education in its formative years was to foster the creation of new knowledge and the development of innovative ideas through rigorous teaching and research. Accordingly, universities traditionally emphasized academic instruction and scholarly inquiry. However, in today’s rapidly evolving world, the role and responsibilities of higher education institutions have expanded significantly to meet emerging societal needs, business demands, and the challenges of global economic development.

A crucial professional and ethical responsibility of modern universities is to prepare students for their future careers by offering guidance, mentorship, and opportunities that enable personal and professional growth. At BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), the Career Development Center (CDC) embraces this responsibility by serving as a bridge between academic learning and real-world career readiness. Through a range of initiatives—such as training sessions, seminars, workshops, festivals, exhibitions, conferences, and one-on-one counseling—the CDC is dedicated to empowering students in their journey beyond graduation.

In line with its mission, the CDC has continuously worked to equip BUFT students with relevant knowledge, practical skills, and a forward-looking mindset. While the Center initially focused on facilitating internships and job placements—assuming that students primarily aspired to join the service sector—it has now broadened its vision. Recognizing the potential of students as future job creators, the CDC has introduced entrepreneurship development programs, including specialized training courses designed to foster innovative and entrepreneurial thinking.

Moreover, the CDC strongly believes that success in the job market requires more than academic knowledge. Soft skills such as communication, leadership, adaptability, and emotional intelligence are vital assets in today’s competitive professional environment. To this end, the Center has launched targeted soft skill development initiatives to help students build these essential competencies.

Additionally, the CDC is engaged in research, public-private partnerships, and international collaborations to ensure that students benefit from global best practices and opportunities. In conclusion, the CDC at BUFT remains deeply committed to supporting students in achieving fulfilling and rewarding careers, whether as skilled professionals in the workforce or as visionary entrepreneurs creating opportunities for others.
