In 1999, it was founded by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association. In 2001, it became affiliated with the National University of Bangladesh. In March 2012, BUFT began its journey to improve the quality of education in Bangladesh. It is officially recognized by Bangladesh's University Grants Commission (UGC).

In the years since its founding, BUFT has made an important impact on higher study in the country. As an excellence center, this university provides top-notch and advanced education. Infrastructure & Facilities

The University's permanent campus is built on 1.66 acres of land acquired from its own funds. There are currently 6000 students enrolled at BGMEA university of science and technology.

In the 10-story academic building, there are 72 state-of-the-art classrooms, 52 laboratories, an auditorium, a multipurpose hall, a library, and a multipurpose hall. Overall, the building has a total floor space of 500,000 square feet.

A swimming pool, a sports gymnasium, a tennis court, a cafeteria, rooms for indoor sports, a prayer room, and many more facilities are available to the faculty and students of BUFT.

Research/Publication

BUFT Journal publishes original, peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary, and internationally recognized scholarly research of the highest quality.

It is published in print once a year. BUFT Journal publishes papers on the latest developments in technology, processing, modeling, and applications in traditional textiles, technical textiles, nonwovens, and textile composites.

Furthermore, it discusses issues related to textile industries in Bangladesh, such as industrial engineering, production theories, labor unrest, working conditions, salary, gender equality, laws, etc. It encourages students and students to research new ideas and development in different sectors. Moreover, this helps open up new doorways for international journal publications for researchers.

Collaborations

As part of its further growth and development, BUFT collaborates with international organizations, including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the European Union (EU), the German Technical Cooperation (GT2), and the South Asia Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF).BUFT students take part in different competitions including fashion shows and national and international levels.
