The long-standing trend of producing knitwear and sweaters in Bangladesh or, accordingly, of selling such knit goods abroad has resulted in knitwear merchandising & management organisations and their allied firms having an ever greater demand for graduates who possess the interfacial skills and competencies needed, plus the required English language skills.

Department of Knitwear Merchandising & Management at BUFT brings an excellent opportunity by offering a program leading to an undergraduate degree on knitwear merchandising & management which prepares students by making them capable of fulfilling that greater need to some extent.

The program has been designed with the philosophy and goal to provide individuals with an environment in which personal and professional aspirations can be fulfilled. The program gives students an opportunity to foster their individual interest at an advanced level, by exploration and experimentation with new approaches to knit fabric design, manufacturing and garmenting, within a dynamic community, supported by professional staffing facilities, contemporary studio space and modern technical resources.

The department functioning under the umbrella of Faculty of Apparel Studies of BUFT offers an undergraduate program constructed of an inter-disciplinary curriculum drawing on diverse textile engineering, knitwear design, knitting, garmenting and merchandising management principles.

Bachelor of KMM (Code: 131)

Bachelor of Knitwear Merchandising & Management program has been designed with the philosophy of producing graduates with interfacial skills and competencies and English language skills in order to meet the greater demand of textiles, knitting, knitwear industries and their allied sectors in Bangladesh. This program is designed for students coming with arts & social sciences and commerce background, although it is open for students of any discipline.

The program consists of eight academic semesters and a total of 140 credits. The curriculum is imparted through an interdisciplinary thrust for systematic learning. The program is broken into a series of semesters, each comprising a set of subjects and learning experiences. The degree program is completed with an 8-week internship which the students do in a company, followed by the production of a dissertation.

Students acquire comprehensive knowledge and insights in the field of knitting, knitwear manufacturing, merchandising and gain important management and leadership qualifications. They also acquire cross-disciplinary problem-solving competencies and optimized language skills by attending courses and internships taught in English. Equipped with competent technical knowledge, the students are able to anticipate and address the concerns and issues of the emerging manufacturing principles.

The state of the art equipment and machinery at BUFT with field visits to the factories and top merchandising and trading firms for studyinh knitwear merchandising & management enhances and reinforces classroom learing and enlarges the horizons of students' success.

In a nutshell, the program enhances the students' perception of the commercial environment and matching it with professional understanding of manufacturing technology, marketing and management principles related to knitting and knit garment industries and merchandizing.

Accreditation of the Program

The syllabus for Bachelor of Knitwear Merchandising & Management program has been prepared with experts from Bangladesh University of Textiles and according to the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, accordingly has been submitted for approval.
