About
Mr. Tonmoy Sarkar
is a lecturer in the Department of Fashion Studies at BGMEA University of
Fashion & Technology (BUFT), where he combines technical expertise with a
passion for innovation in textile and fashion education. He completed his B.Sc.
in Textile Engineering from Bangladesh University of Textiles
(BUTex) and is currently pursuing an M.Sc. in Fabric
Engineering at BUTex.
With prior teaching roles at Daffodil International University and World University of Bangladesh, Mr.Tonmoy has instructed a range of courses including fabric manufacturing, yarn manufacturing, textile testing & quality control, and smart textiles. His interdisciplinary teaching approach bridges traditional textile knowledge with emerging technological and sustainable innovations.
His primary research interests lie in smart
textiles, wearable technology, and
the enhancement
of surface properties in textile materials to improve their
functional and aesthetic performance. Tonmoy focuses on
integrating advanced textile engineering with real-world applications that
promote environmental sustainability and user adaptability.
His research contributions include:
(i)
Nano-Enhanced
Nonwoven Fabrics for Smart Textiles with Environmental Sensing Capabilities for
Urban Heat Island Mitigation,
(ii)
Revitalizing
Jamdani Sarees: Process Optimization and Design Intervention Strategies,
and
(iii)
Development
of a Cost-effective Impedance Tube to assess sound absorption properties in
bonded interlock fabrics.
Beyond academia, Mr. Tonmoy is actively involved in
extracurricular and student leadership activities. He has served as an advisor
to the IEOM Society WUB Chapter and has held executive roles in clubs such as
the BUTEX Debate Club and Youth Development Club. A passionate public speaker
and debater, he frequently participates in national competitions and fosters a
culture of confidence, critical thinking, and communication among his students.
