About

Rakibul Islam Shifat is an academic and professional in the field of apparel merchandising and supply chain management. He completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC) at IET Government High School and his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) at Govt. Tolaram College, Narayanganj. He holds a bachelor's degree in Apparel Merchandising and Management from BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a specialization in Supply Chain Management at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).

He began his professional career as a Trainee Executive in the Industrial Engineering Department at Fakir Apparels Limited before transitioning into academia. In 2022, he joined BUFT as a Teaching Assistant and has since progressed to the role of Lecturer. Throughout his academic career, he has actively engaged in professional development, participating in training sessions such as the "Workshop on National Portal Framework" and "Creating High-End Fashion With Heritage Materials From Bangladesh". He has  also served as a co-researcher for a project titled "Choice of Techniques: Firm Level Upgrading of the RMG Sector in Bangladesh" from the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS).

Beyond his teaching and research responsibilities, he serves as the Club Advisor for the BUFT Merchandising Club, where he plays a key role in organizing seminars and workshops aimed at enhancing students’ skills and industry readiness.

His academic background, industry experience, and commitment to student development contribute significantly to the field of fashion education and supply chain management.

Teaching/Research Specialization

Rakibul Islam Shifat is  specialized in the academic study of garment production, focusing on key areas such as product analysis, process optimization, sewing technology, and advanced garment construction techniques. With a solid academic foundation in Apparel Merchandising and Management, complemented by ongoing studies in Supply Chain Management, he has developed a comprehensive understanding of the garment manufacturing process. As a Lecturer at BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), Shifat is committed to equipping students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical expertise necessary for success in the apparel industry.

He teaches a range of specialized courses, including Sewing Tools and Techniques, Sewing Machine Attachment Lab, Garment Construction Techniques, and Cutting Room Management. These courses provide students with an in-depth understanding of garment production, from selecting and utilizing sewing tools and machine attachments to mastering complex garment construction methods and optimizing cutting room operations. By integrating both theoretical instruction and hands-on training, Shifat ensures that students gain the practical skills needed to excel in garment manufacturing.

In addition to the technical aspects, his courses emphasize process analysis and optimization. Students are taught to critically evaluate each stage of garment production, including material selection, sewing techniques, and workflow efficiency. This approach enables students to understand how to streamline production processes, improve product quality, and reduce costs. His academic approach combines rigorous theory with practical application, preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the apparel industry and to contribute effectively to its advancement.
