About

Nadia Tasnim Piya is a highly motivated academic professional with having several years of experience and a zestful record in teaching, research and academic leadership. At present she is holding a position of an Assistant Professor, department of Fashion Studies at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology;

Nadia Tasnim Piya has earned her Master’s degree on Fashion Design from Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology (SMUCT) and completed her B.Sc in Fashion Design & Technology from BGMEA Institution of Fashion & Technology (BIFT). (Presently BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology, BUFT)

In 2014; Nadia Tasnim Piya has started her career in teaching at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology, BUFT. Before having years of experience in the field of teaching; she worked as a fashion designer in a local fashion brand.She also earned years of experience in the RMG sector that gave her the opportunity to work with various renowned fashion brands around the world which helped her understanding the international fashion business.This combined knowledge of the local and the international fashion market has helped her possessing the comprehensive skill-set and progressive approaches to affect favorable outcomes in the role of a fashion academic.

Apart from her accademicl journey, she took part in various international collaborative projects, for instance;she was involved in a one year project  on Faculty Capacity Building and Curriculum Development Support for Responsible Business development under Step Up Plus Project, Denmark during the period of October 2017 to September 2018. Along with it she was also engaged in a collaborative Project on “Creating High End Fashion with Heritage Materials of Bangladesh” implemented by Ministry of Commerce,Govt. Of Bangladesh, in co-operation with BGMEA, on 21st June,2023 on which she was a participant and developed a high end product using “Jamdani ShareeShe has been  actively supervised  in a  Project named “Buying Project -1 & 2” under the title of “International collaborative Project on buying in the textile industry” between 5 universities, on 16th October, 2019 initiated by Saxion University of Applied Science, Netherlands. She has also participated in numerous  training programs,such as “Principles of Color Development, Assessment Communication & Approval” by Society of Dyers and Colorists, United Kingdom on 11th October, 2018 also training on “Understanding Fashion Trends” & “Future of Fashion” by international Designers of YELLOW on March 20, 2019.

Nadia Tasnim has one year of experience as a Fashion Designer in the field of Local Fashion Market and 3 years of experience in Merchandising in the RMG sector of Bangladesh.She has 9 years of experience in Teaching and research in the field of Fashion.In the past few years she feels herself fortunate to gather experience in conducting multi-disciplinary courses from technical to conceptual ones.

She found professional experience as a mentor by providing a broad view that is useful in assisting students with projects and assignments for instance; several exhibitions , display programs that include painting exhibitions, crafts & Jewellery making, knitwear design, display on scale down model of Fashion store and  window display decoration along with others. These experiences have built her confidence and interest to look forward to the opportunity to not only teach existing courses, but also developing creative and  innovative ideas. She has also been actively participated  as a program host and organized numerous programs.

 

Teaching/Research Specialization

Nadia Tasnim Piya believes in multidisciplinary teaching and research area. Her research interest reflects on cultural diversity, environment and sustainability, Global crisis and consciousness, human psychology and mental health.
