About

Farhana Jannat is an accomplished academic and industry professional in the field of Apparel Manufacture and Technology, with extensive expertise in corporate social responsibility (CSR), compliance, and ethical standards within the global apparel supply chain. She earned her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) from Banani Bidyaniketon and her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Shaheed Anwar Girls College, Dhaka. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Apparel Manufacture & Technology and a Master of Business Administration in Apparel Merchandising from the BGMEA Institute of Fashion and Technology. Furthering her academic pursuits, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in CSR, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Innovative Leadership from Nyenrode Business University, Netherlands, in 2015.

Ms. Jannat began her professional journey in the private sector, where she held key roles in Wal-Mart Global Procurement as an Ethical Standard Coordinator and subsequently as an Auditor. In these capacities, she was responsible for conducting compliance audits, organizing supplier workshops, and coordinating sustainability initiatives. Transitioning into academia in 2009, she joined the BGMEA Institute of Fashion and Technology, now BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT), as a Lecturer. Over the years, she progressed to the role of Assistant Professor, where she continues to teach and contribute to the academic development of the university.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Jannat plays an active role in academic administration. She currently serves as Assistant Proctor, Program Coordinator of the Department of Apparel Manufacture and Technology, and Team Leader for SRHR-related activities under the NICHE Project. She also holds memberships in several key committees, including the Sexual Harassment and Complaint Committee and the Web Design and Content Editing Committee, and acts as the Advisor to the proposed BUFT Apparel Club.

Her research interests are focused on the social and ethical dimensions of the RMG sector. She is presently engaged in ongoing research projects such as “Mapping the Drivers for Transformational Change of the RMG Sector in Bangladesh” and “Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.” Ms. Jannat has also contributed to numerous publications addressing themes such as CSR, supply chain integration, production efficiency, and sustainable development in the apparel sector.

With a career spanning over a decade in both academia and industry, Ms. Jannat brings a unique blend of technical expertise, research acumen, and a deep commitment to ethical and sustainable practices. Her contributions have significantly enriched fashion education and continue to support the development of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.

Teaching/Research Specialization

Ms. Farhana Jannat’s academic and research specialization lies in apparel manufacturing processes, compliance, and corporate social responsibility. Her teaching focuses on developing technical proficiency and ethical awareness among students, underpinned by her strong industry background.

At BUFT, she delivers key undergraduate courses such as Clothing Materials and Techniques, Cutting Room Technology, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Introduction to Fashion and Clothing Industries in Bangladesh. These courses are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of apparel production technologies, material applications, compliance protocols, and industry dynamics in both local and global contexts.

Her instructional methodology emphasizes the integration of theory with practical insights. She encourages students to critically analyze manufacturing processes, assess material performance, and evaluate the social and environmental impact of production practices. Her emphasis on CSR and ethical manufacturing helps students develop a holistic view of sustainability in the apparel sector.

Through her academic and research efforts, Ms. Jannat continues to mentor and inspire future professionals in the field, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to meet the evolving challenges of the fashion and textile industry.
