About

Dr. Md Tarikul Islam is a lecturer at the Department of English, BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT). He holds a PhD in sociolinguistics from the University of Malaya, Malaysia (QS World Ranking-60 in 2025). His Master of Education (MEd) with a major in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is also from the University of Malaya. In addition, he graduated and post-graduated in English language and literature from the Asian University of Bangladesh.

He received the Graduation on Time (GOT) award from the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics, University of Malaya. He was a research assistant and conducted many workshops on research methodology. He also received awards and certificates from the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association (MELTA) for presenting research papers at conferences and from Tamil Foundation Malaysia (TFM) for his contribution to teaching research methodology.

He is determined to enhance research-based and student-oriented teaching and learning pedagogy to ensure quality education with authentic materials in contemporary phenomena. His research interests are in English language education, society, culture, language maintenance and shift, language teaching, proficiency, vitality, and medium of instruction. He has several research publications in Web of Science, SCOPUS, and General indexed journals. Additionally, he taught at United International University, Eastern University, and Northern University of Bangladesh as an adjunct faculty at the Department of English.
