Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Our mission is to produce engineers and researchers with sound knowledge on fundamentals of traditional, modern and emerging areas of engineering together with innovative design abilities, IT and managerial skills, which are essential to achieve sustainable national development.

The Department offers undergraduate as well as research and graduate programs in Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is a very broad field. It encompasses machines, materials, energy, manufacturing, automation, biomedical engineering, aerospace and more. The Department’s expertise and programs fully cover this breadth, offering students a broadly based education and a wide range of career choices. Building upon such excellence, our department is actively defining and shaping the future of mechanical engineering.

Program of Study

The department functions under the umbrella of Faculty of Engineering Studies of BUFT and offers an undergraduate program leading to Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (B.Sc. in ME) degree. The program is constructed of an interdisciplinary curriculum drawing on diverse sciences, mathematics and mechanical engineering principles.

The B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering provides a general engineering education in the design and build of equipment and machinery. Specialist and cross-system lectures are designed to equip students with system skills and interdisciplinary problem-solving skills.

Mechanical engineering is one of the most versatile fields of knowledge, study and practice with a wide range of great career options. From designing supersonic aircraft to microscopic robots, mechanical engineering has a major role to play.

Mechanical Engineering graduates will be especially suited for careers in- International mechanical and facilities engineering; thermal, mechanical and chemical process engineering; automotive design and its supply chain; environmental protection technology; and various engineering companies and consultancies.

Students will learn basic engineering and natural science knowledge and techniques and the thinking that lies behind them, basic specialist principles of construction technology, basic specialist principles of energy technology, basic specialist principles of manufacturing technology, basic specialist principles of fluid engineering and thermodynamics, and will pursue their preference for a commercial or academic career via their choice of electives.

Accreditation of the Program

The syllabus for B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering program has been designed with experts from BUET and according to the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh. The syllabus has been submitted to the UGC of Bangladesh for approval.
